Trading Cards are one of the booming items that we're seeing in collectables auctions in terms of popularity as well as value. Much more than just brightly coloured pieces of card, they are generally nostalgic items for most people, remembering swapping their collections at lunchtimes at school.
Our popular collectors' cavern auctions include this area of collecting as well as the more familiar movie and music posters and memorabilia. Within this area we include all Trading Cards (including but not limited to Pokémon, Star Wars, Star Trek, Bench Warmer, Marvel, Dungeons & Dragons, Harry Potter, Film & TV Stars, Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Heroes, Power Rangers, Superman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Walking Dead, Topps, AB&C, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Wizards of the Coast, Fleer, Outer Space, Baseball cards, hockey cards and many more
Generally, the rule of thumb when collecting anything is to collect whatever brings you joy. The most popular Trading Cards brands within this area are:
Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Marvel Masterpieces, Disney Lorcana, Star Wars: Unlimited, Bandai
The answer isn't simple, as neither is particularly better than the other. It all depends on what you want.
Panini cards tend to be more modern and innovative - the generally go-to brand for football and basketball collectors, thanks to NBA and NFL licences; but also one of the staples in the UK trading cards market is Adrenalyn XL Premier League Cards by Panini - the ones to look out for are the signed and limited edition ones, as these generally increase in value
Topps is known for its historic place in baseball card history, the original heavyweight founded in 1938.
